Golf Rules & Etiquette

The quality and image of our golf course is a direct reflection of our members' and guests etiquette. The following extracts from the RCGA Rules of Golf, together with certain local rules, govern the conduct of play on the Course.

Pace of Play

In the interest of all, players should play without delay. On the fairway or green, study your shot and be ready to play immediately when it is your turn. "Ready" golf is always encouraged.

No player should play until the players in front are out of range.

Players searching for a ball should signal the players behind them to pass as soon as it becomes apparent that the ball will not be easily found. They should not search for 5 minutes before doing so.

When the play of a hole has been completed, players should immediately leave the putting green and proceed to the next tee before recording scores. If a group fails to keep its place on the Course and loses more than one clear hole on the players in front, it must allow the group following to pass through.

A single player has no standing and should give way to a match of any kind.

Marshal/Starter Program

During peak periods the Stratford Country Club employs marshals to ensure that all players maintain a standard pace of play. The course marshal has the authority to oversee all course activity including player conduct and speed of play. The intent of the Club in using course marshals is to enhance the enjoyment of our facility by our members and guests. Failure to adhere to marshal instructions could result in players being asked to leave the property.

Course Care

Through the green, a player should ensure that any turf cut or displaced is replaced at once and pressed down and that any damage to the putting green made by a ball is carefully repaired.

Before leaving a bunker, a player should carefully rake and smooth over all holes and footprints they have made.
